The Pilgrims
From January 13 to February 26 2025, hundreds of millions of people gathered at the Maha Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) to pause and reconnect with their faith. This year marked a rare convergence of celestial alignments, making this Kumbh Mela a once-in-144-year event. The festival attracted thousands of sadhus and pilgrims. During my visit, I was particularly moved by the gatherings and ceremonies near the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of three holy rivers (Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati) where people take a dip to wash away their sins, seek spiritual renewal and salvation. In the face of materialism, the Hindu festival becomes a reminder that faith and community are vital to human existence.
